A fitting session is mostly a form and a set of numbers, which means there is no good reason for it to be inaccessible. This page says what we have done, what still falls short, and how to tell us when we have got it wrong.

1. The standard we hold ourselves to

We target WCAG 2.2 Level AA across the site and the fitting app. That is the benchmark referenced by the European Accessibility Act and Italian Law 4/2004 (the Stanca Law), and it is the bar we test against rather than the bar we aspire to.

2. What is in place today

  • Every page and every step of the fitting session is reachable and operable by keyboard alone, in a logical order, with a skip-to-content link and no keyboard traps.
  • Focus is always visible: a two-pixel brass ring with a dark inner edge, so it shows on both light and dark grounds. We never remove the outline.
  • Body and interface text meets or exceeds 4.5:1 contrast; large display text meets 3:1; the brass primary button is dark ink on brass precisely so it passes rather than looking like it should.
  • All animation, including the marquee and the swatch rail, stops entirely when the browser asks for reduced motion. The 3D preview falls back to a static render.
  • The FAQ and every expander are native <details> and <summary> elements, so they announce their own open and closed state without any script.
  • Headings are ordered, landmarks are labelled, and every form field has a real <label> — not a placeholder pretending to be one. Errors are announced, described in words, and never signalled by colour alone.
  • Measurements can be typed as well as dragged. Every slider in the session has a paired numeric input, so nothing depends on a pointer gesture.
  • The site works with JavaScript disabled: the fitting session degrades to a plain multi-step form that posts to the server and returns the same specification.
  • Layouts reflow to 320 CSS pixels with no horizontal scrolling, and survive 200 per cent text zoom and 400 per cent browser zoom.
  • Decorative artwork — the caliper motif, the stitch rules, the hero canvas — is hidden from assistive technology. Meaningful images carry real alternative text, and the strap renders name the leather, the hardware and the stitch rather than saying “strap”.

3. Known limitations

We would rather write these down than let you discover them:

  • The 3D fitting preview is a visual medium. Rotating a strap on a case is not something we can make meaningful to a screen reader, and we are not going to pretend a verbose description is equivalent. The spec panel is the accessible equivalent: every dimension the preview shows — lug width, taper, thickness at the lug and at the tail, curve radius, strap and tail length, hole positions, hardware and stitch — is published there as text, in a table, updated in the same instant as the render, and announced on change. Anything you could learn by looking at the preview, you can read in the panel. If you find something visible in the render that is not in the panel, that is a bug and we want the report.
  • The swatch rail conveys texture visually. Grain, sheen and scale pattern do not survive being written down. Each swatch therefore carries a written description — tannage, finish, firmness on a five-point scale, thickness in millimetres, and how it behaves in wear — and the concierge posts physical swatches free, anywhere, which is the only genuinely equivalent way to judge leather. Ask and they go out the same day.
  • Caseback photo upload. The optional photograph step improves fit accuracy and depends on taking a usable picture. There is no accessible substitute for that, so the step is always skippable, and the concierge will confirm the geometry with you by email instead — same accuracy, one extra day.
  • Checkout is provided by a third party. We test it every quarter against WCAG 2.2 AA and pass findings back to the vendor. The current report is available on request. If the checkout blocks you, the concierge will take the order by email or telephone and honour any active price.
  • Two atelier films lack audio description, although both have accurate captions and a full text transcript below the player.

4. How we assess

Automated checks run on every deploy and block the build on a contrast or label failure. On top of that we do a manual keyboard and screen-reader pass every quarter — VoiceOver on macOS and iOS, NVDA with Firefox on Windows — walking the whole fitting session end to end, and we commission an external audit annually. The most recent audit was March 2026.

5. Reporting a barrier

Email concierge@wristcraft.app with the page, what you were trying to do, and what your assistive technology did. A telephone report to +39 055 264 8110 is equally welcome and we will write it up for you.

Our commitments: we acknowledge within two working days, give you a diagnosis and a target date within ten working days, and fix accessibility defects ahead of other work — critical blockers within 15 working days. If a fix will take longer, we say so and offer a workaround in the meantime.

If a barrier stops you completing a fitting or a build, the concierge will run the session with you directly, by email or telephone, and honour any promotion that was live when you first tried. That offer has no expiry and you do not have to explain yourself to use it.
